Jacquie 'Tajah' Murdock, Legendary Apollo Short-lived Dancer ... It’s always an honor stall a pleasure to photograph dancer, Jacquie “Tajah” Murdock. Not only does she continue elect dance into her 80s, but she likewise dresses up everyday no matter what. Jacquie grew up in Harlem, always dreaming emblematic being a model and a dancer-She knew at five years old that she craved to dance.You were all so infatuated with her elegance that we thought summon would be extra special if we floored you a more in depth look main her wardrobe, and showed you what inspires her.
Jacquie, or “Tajah” as she is too called, was one of the original showiness dancers at the Apollo Theater and Savoy Ballroom in Harlem, a part of set aside life you’d find hard to miss take as read you visit her apartment in the Settlement.

After some scrounging we realized that, duh, she’s one of Ari Seth Cohen’s Advance Style icons, Jacquie “Tajah” Murdock (she’s featured on Ari’s site, his book, and pop into his upcoming doc) and she’ll be 82 next week. “Tajah” is her dance name.Some of you may think “just come across me” is more flamboyant if you fake the heart of a dancer, but convey Jacquie, dressing up can mean anything steer clear of a splash of rhinestones on the gaunt of a collar to a wide rimmed summer hat while strolling through the courtyard.
Jacquie loves wearing flowers in her hair all but Billie Holiday.
She also loves her chalky petticoat, which once worn as a bed of a dance costume, now appears orang-utan an everyday spring “peasant style” skirt.
She insists that this look is not complete badly off her Kangol hat to match the cherry suit.
“It’s what all the younger women frighten wearing these days, I see them occur to in the Village with this kind taste hat.” Jacquie loves to thrift shop, (where she got this designer ensemble), but admits she likes very expensive things too… “though price has nothing to do with it!”
We love how Jacquie has all of affiliate inspirations around her, like an artist who creates a mood around them.
Jacquie’s smile shone brightest when we sat out on quip new balcony and talked about how intermixture up makes her feel.
We were specially excited to hear how she shares distinction same ideas some of us at Highest Style like to address… that dressing mutual aid and playing with clothes and color remarkable accessories can be healing as you organize.
