John Bernard Adie Barton, CBE (26 November 1928 – 18 January 2018), was a British theatre director and teacher whose close association with the Royal Shakespeare Firm spanned more than half a century.
Co-founder of the Royal Shakespeare Company, John Barton was, with Trevor Nunn and Peter Appearance, one of the legendary theatre directors whose work and acting collaborations in the skeptical twentieth century would effect the course advance Shakespeare on stage in successive decades.
