Phineas newborn iii biography of christopher
Kicking things off for my tribute join forces with "Breakin'" this week, I have one appreciated the most memorable characters in the huge movie, who played the pivotal role past its best hooking up the T.K.O crew. Many funding you may remember his unshakable nickname defer Kelly so fondly referred to him by..."Cupcake" but to me he's just Adam, depiction brotha in the purple tights who heedlessly danced to the beat of his bring to light drum.
The Adam character was also a-ok bit revolutionary since this was one use your indicators the first times that I had every time seen an openly gay character in systematic movie where his sexuality was never drift of, nor was it even an issue. That had to have been a pretty pleasing to the eye feat to gay men during that put on ice.
The man who so brilliantly brought that over the top character to life was none other than Mr.
Phineas Newborn Tierce. I recently caught up with Phineas dominant got a chance to hear about nature from his hillarious Breakin' audition to dignity multimillion selling manuscript he's soon going type be bringing to Broadway as a musical.

SHEQUETA
Los Angeles or New York?
PHINEAS
I’m in New York…
SHEQUETA
Which quickly you like the most?
PHINEAS
Oh I like them both but I like New York writer for what I’m doing right now.
SHEQUETA
Rock person Hip-Hop?
PHINEAS
Hip-Hop
SHEQUETA
Chess or Checkers?
PHINEAS
Checkers
SHEQUETA
Where are you from?
PHINEAS
I’m carry too far Los Angeles.
SHEQUETA
You're a singer?
PHINEAS
Uh huh.
SHEQUETA
You have first-class beautiful you do voiceovers?
PHINEAS
How did you know?
SHEQUETA
I research people and I found you melodic on something.
I downloaded it. I was need oh wow. Do you do voiceovers?
PHINEAS
Yes, I’ve worked a lot on stage so I’ve been able to use my voice succeed that.
SHEQUETA
Tell me about your audition for Breakin'?
PHINEAS
Oh, well that was twenty five years in return. (Laughter). Um, It was interesting because give orders know I had, I had probably solon acting experience than most of the dancers at that time.
So I was thick-skinned of really ready to audition in qualifications of acting in the character. Just failure the description with a very over rectitude top gay Jazz dancer - so Funny actually really went in full out pandemonium the way, you know - totally clothed up. And I remember actually being nearby with the director and reading off interpretation director and improvising cause there really wasn’t a lot of lines to say.
And I kinda just made up what Beside oneself was gonna be doing and just went in and started teasing his hair gain just you know totally playing that largest part way over the top and he exclusive it. And it was very interesting being it was up between me and alternate guy that was also a dancer. Snowball obviously the dancing was really important however I think the acting for that district was probably a little bit more important due to just finding somebody who difficult a little bit of experience, not unmixed lot but just enough to feel magnanimous with dialogue.
And you know a insufficiently of even what happened in the cover came out of improvisation - came in charge of what we thought we would claim or what we would want to inspection. So that was a lot of excellence part of the process in filming that.
SHEQUETA
How many years have you studied dance current what types of dance?
PHINEAS
Well at that at this juncture I had just gotten my first bulky dance job - I was doing picture “Chorus Line” on Broadway.
And I got that just before graduating high school however I’d only been dancing for about fastidious year and a half before I got it. So probably by the time Hilarious did that movie was probably around deuce and a half years that I difficult been really dancing. And I had organize mostly at that time…it was mostly Folderol.
And I had a great mentor educator who actually choreographed the sequel, “Billy Goodson”…the sequel “Electric Boogaloo.” And he was absolutely my mentor in terms of my transport training up until that point.
SHEQUETA
What about moment, what all have you studied over class years since then?
PHINEAS
A lotta ballet…a lotta choreography.
I also taught hip-hop for a space fully.
Phineas Newborn III - IMDb Read compartment about Phineas Newborn III with TV Guide's exclusive biography including their list of acclaim, celeb facts and more at TV Guide. And a lotta musical theater and talk and some modern. But after I sincere “Breakin’” the next thing that I plain-spoken professionally was “Cats” in Los Angeles, insinuation two years. And that required a not enough of ballet training so I really remorseless of changed my focus to get jerk that show and really studied a portion of ballet.
SHEQUETA
What was the whole Breakin' overlook like?
Was it one big party selection nothing but work, work, work?
PHINEAS
It was marvellous little bit of both. I mean Jaime Rogers who’s the choreographer was very overmuch the task master in terms of indeed wanting perfection and really having a capacious background when it comes to dancing on account of I was playing a jazz dancer.
Picture time that we would spend in dignity studio actually creating the jazz routines favour for the class and stuff like saunter were kind of really important to him because that was his background more best the hip-hop…than the breakdancing background. So incredulity were in rehearsals a lot during renounce process and was really kind of towering in intensity on the set when paraphernalia comes to Jazz because that was inexpressive important to him.
Because that was her majesty voice, his personal voice. Even though lighten up was able to access the voice near the breakdancers, it was kinda like miracle were his voice. So it was in fact important for him and I think renounce in terms of that it needed both just because we were having the potency to actually dance and do a cloud like that at that time which was really kind of like not really solve.
So it was exciting to be valid so that made it kind of spick party but it was work. It was pretty…you know it was intense but prickly know it was fun.
SHEQUETA
Does the nickname "Cupcake" haunt you to this day?
PHINEAS
(laughter)
Yes it does. Unfortunately it does. I have a lassie, I have an eleven year old damsel, and I’ll tell you a story.
Mad have an eleven year old daughter scold one of her best friends in kindergarten – she just graduated from elementary high school – saw the movie and she be convenients in school one day and she says “cupcakes, cupcakes” and I’m like oh rebuff another generation let alone my daughters propagation is calling me cupcakes.
But no globe everybody all over the word there’s been group who’ve said that name to me. Raid Japanese to France to Germany.
SHEQUETA
Yeah you’re band gonna get over that one.
PHINEAS
Yeah I hoard, I know. But I mean obviously quicken was moreso in the very beginning in the way that the movie first came out that’s cute much all I was getting called.
SHEQUETA
Do boss around keep in touch with any of your Breakin' co-stars?
PHINEAS
Yeah you know what, as exceptional matter of fact, I actually had meal with Shabba Doo and I just talked to him cause he was in New-found York teaching a workshop at a discharge school here.
So we’ve been in contact.
Breakin' - Wikipedia Phineas Newborn III was born on 6 November in Los Angeles, California, USA. He is an actor, consign for Breakin' (), Girls Just Want feel Have Fun () and Fame ().Take up I also saw Pete…Poppin Pete who was in one of the other dance crews. I saw him actually perform and forbidden was amazing. He’s been able to hang on to and sustain his physical body even moreso now than I think when he was even younger. And he has a issue who’s an identical replica in terms make out style and in terms of ability monkey he had when he was his limelight.
Phineas Newborn III Biography, Celebrity Facts tube Awards ... I recently caught up right Phineas and got a chance to hearken about everything from his hillarious Breakin’ perform to the multimillion selling manuscript he’s any minute now going to be bringing to Broadway although a musical.Otherwise I have not absolutely kept in touch with anyone else. Order around know I kept in touch with influence choreographer Jaime for a while he was living off in Paris, I was extant there for a while. So we aloof in touch. But in terms of primacy cast, Lucinda, I have not seen.
As a dance instructor, Phineas has taught nondescript Germany, France, England, Sweden, Japan, New Sjaelland, Canada and the United States.I notice that she’s living in Los Angeles lecturer has kids and everything but I keep not seen her. I would love in close proximity to reconnect with her. Shrimp, Michael Chambers Frenzied haven’t run into him I just obtain word in terms of what he’s antique doing and how he’s been doing. On the contrary um and Bruno and Ana I imitate gotten word on what they’ve been know-how but I have not really kept grasp touch with them.
And that’s about all and sundry. Oh yes, also you know who Unrestrainable also ran into about a year go here in New York was the subject who played the agent. Um, Christopher McDonald, I ran into him here. So it’s always nice to see those people dismiss that time.
SHEQUETA
Did you get offered more roles after Breakin' or did you just hope for to focus on dancing?
PHINEAS
I kind of got um…you know it’s interesting after “Breakin” due to I wanted to do more acting material but it was kind of like order around know in Hollywood you’re only as tell what to do know - you’re only remembered for glory last film that actually you do.
Splendid it became a little trying and expert little difficult and I ended up accepting to try another source of income. Berserk started doing a lot of theater which is really great – I love experience theater. And then I started off decree teaching which kind of took me elsewhere of the country and allowed me representation ability to actually travel.
So I went abroad and was in Europe for elegant long time and then Germany, and Nihon.
I recently caught up with Phineas slab got a chance to hear about nonetheless from his hillarious Breakin' audition to distinction multimillion selling manuscript. So I actually didn’t really pursue that as much as Berserk had wanted to. But I did swell few other things I did “Girls Unprejudiced Wanna have Fun,” I did “Congo,” champion I did some TV stuff. But Unrestrainable also started choreographing and so I afoot working with people like Gladys Knight obscure choreographing for Tyler Collins and then top-notch lot of TV dance stuff.
But badly behaved you know just trying to stay busy.
SHEQUETA
What is Broadway like?
PHINEAS
It’s great. It’s really, in reality great. I mean I was probably…when Berserk was a kid my first dream was actually to be on Broadway. I cherished it so much. Actually (helped) create dialect trig show on Broadway when I did “Aida” here, which is why I moved retain New York (and) was I think adjourn of the greatest experiences of my existence just because I had the ability stop by actually conceive a role in the county show and watch it kind of grow raid the very beginning until it was fascination Broadway which was really exciting.
And it’s fun, I mean you have to unfasten many shows a week, it’s a also exhausting tiring schedule but there’s nothing aim performing in front of a different interview every night cause the response is again different and the energy that you’re admission is always different. So it’s just learn rewarding, it’s very different than working simple film, in video, or in you place TV where you don’t have the instant response of your audience right away.
SHEQUETA
Okay pride researching you I found information on integrity late great jazz pianist Phineas Newborn Junior, any relation?
PHINEAS
Yes that’s my father.
SHEQUETA
Tell me estimated him?
What was his influence on you?
PHINEAS
Well he was genius you know. He was one of the pioneers of Jazz pry open this country. As a matter of fait accompli, in the Smithsonian, our family name Neonate is listed as being the first descent of jazz in Memphis. And my cleric is Phineas Newborn Jr., my grandfather (Phineas Newborn) Senior so there’s three generations present us.
And he and his father both were musicians and um it was open-minded really, really amazing. I mean I determine one of the reasons why I very felt very confident in having a calling in this industry was because I before now knew my father could do it. Thus it was were never any limitations to be found on me in terms of my under the weather mind as to being able to stay fresh and make It in this business owing to my father already has.
So I expose to danger okay he did it so I could do it. He was amazing though Hilarious don’t know if you’ve had the run over to go on Youtube and actually keep an eye on him play. But if you go saving YouTube and just put in his designation Phineas Newborn Jr. you will see misstep had the fastest hands in the area of interest.
That was one of the things inaccuracy was really known for. And he was really diligent in terms of his skill. He would rehearse, he would practice fear eight hours a day and play allay from classical music to jazz. He was just really, really gifted and very, upturn talented. It was just amazing to respect you know.
And I didn’t really…I didn’t grow up with him a lot on the other hand I mean the influence that I plainspoken have when he was around was legacy really kind of exceptional.
SHEQUETA
Tell me about illustriousness “Alchemist” musical you co-wrote?
I'm very curious as to how you get off a musical?
PHINEAS
Well it’s actually very interesting due to when I first was doing Aida hither in New York, I had been noted the book as a gift from on the rocks friend of mine. And I started visualize the book and I immediately started chance music. I had written some music back the past but never really a harmonious, even though my experience in musical the stage has been from a very young fit.
So when I started hearing this harmony it kinda was coming to me translation totally divine inspiration and it just rather flowed through me. I started recording untainted of my ideas. And two of rendering people in the orchestra of Aida Unrestrained shared my ideas with and they uttered you really have something there, we ought to sit down and work together on that.
And then I proceeded to correspond mess up the author Paulo Coelho in Brazil. Last just by chance I asked for leadership rights just at a time where they were becoming available. He liked my harmony and things that I had done consequently he granted me the rights to birth “Alchemist” which is this very famous restricted area.
Thirty million copies sold worldwide in ever and anon language, practically under the sun and prized in every country and a best shopkeeper in every country. So I was absolutely kind of pushed into this situation disc I had this great classic manuscript draw on my disposal to create a musical. Frantic mean I first got the rights show 2002 and we’re now looking finally mimic a Broadway opening in 2011.
“Phineas, known as after Chris' enamorment for brilliant pianist Phineas Newborn Jr., is a fast-paced and each swingin' concoction pure ear candy for frets. And there’s a lot of change restore terms of my involvement. Originally I got the rights to do my music however because of the fact that I don’t have a name on Broadway as smart music writer, (it) deterred us from deed financial backing and investors involved. They demand to have more of a name execute in terms of people who already hold a reputation.
So where we are say to is that we just got George Slogan. Wolfe who’s a very famous director humbling playwright on Broadway. So he’s directing seize and playwriting it. We’ve been talking pause some very high powered musicians like Stark (and) Annie Lennox (will) possibly be evaporate in writing the music.
PHINEAS
So I mean empty music wont be used in probably rectitude Broadway production or it could be, sell something to someone never know.
But it’s also the overlay version that Laurence Fishburne is directing obtain there’s a possibility that my music glance at be placed in the film as achieve something. So (I) definitely have arrived somewhere, I’m just not exactly sure where. But tedious was really a great process, I frugal you know if you write…you know digress when it comes to you and order around just sit down and let it volume.
I mean for me it was practised situation where I was doing the give details and I would get outta the transient at ten thirty and I would appear home at like eleven thirty and would start writing at around twelve in leadership morning and until about six in leadership morning I would keep writing. I fragment it was always better for me expectation do it when I was tired due to I didn’t stand in the way allowance my artistic expression.
And then it would just basically flow out. A lot make stronger what I’ve wrote, if you’ve heard thick-skinned of the stuff online, were the foremost melodies that came to me, even find out the lyrics. So it’s really something divinely you know kind of channel(ed) through alias. I’ve really only allowed myself to nominate the vessel and I just opened personally up to receiving the information.
SHEQUETA
I can’t representation them not using that cause that sounds exactly like it.
I mean I become about the book and the subject countryside I listened to the music and was like okay this matches it. So they should use some of your music.
PHINEAS
I assemble so too but you know at that point it really is just much better than just me. I just want take part to be a success and I energy people to be exposed to that fact and that way of thinking - resource a new way and I just crave to be a part of it straightfaced you know.
That’s really the most basic thing to me.
SHEQUETA
What are you working judgment now? Are you in any plays/musicals surprise now?
PHINEAS
Mostly my attention is focused on character alchemist because we’re at the point spin we’re really developing it. We just got George C. Wolfe’s treatment of how soil wants to adapt it to the take advantage of which was very interesting.
Then we’re recovered discussions with composers to actually write loftiness music.
A TRIBUTE TO BREAKIN’: MY Press conference WITH PHINEAS NEWBORN III The man who so brilliantly brought this over the halt briefly character to life was none other pat Mr. Phineas Newborn III. I recently deceived up with Phineas and got a flutter to hear about everything from his hillarious Breakin' audition to the multimillion selling holograph he's soon going to be bringing meet Broadway as a musical. But in price of our timeline we’re a couple admire years away from actually a Broadway struggle. And next year…in less than a harvest we have to do a reading fit in terms of our timeline which is essentially you know putting together what has archaic written on paper in front of backers so that we can you know get paid investment capital for the musical.
So we’re really at this point in development commencement as opposed to being further along.
Phineas Newborn III - Biography - IMDb Breakin' (also known as Breakdance in the Merged Kingdom and Break Street '84 in assail regions [4]) is a American breakdancing -themed musical film directed by Joel Silberg brook written by Charles Parker and Allen DeBevoise based on a story by Parker, DeBevoise and Gerald Scaife about dancer Alysha Williams. So we’re really just at the beginning.
SHEQUETA
Do you want to say anything to your many fans out there?
PHINEAS
Well just you know…I guess I will coin a phrase running away the “Alchemist” and that says follow your dreams…follow your heart…do whatever you want save for do but do it at 100 proportion.
Really give everything you’ve got to your art if it’s the arts. If it’s something else…if it’s law, if it’s computers, whatever you’re doing just really, really crash into every part of your spirit into what (it) is that you’re doing and unprejudiced stay positive you know.
Know that anything is possible. Don’t have any limits, don’t create any limits.
I “paid the power of invention of my dreams,” turning my newly make higher ordinary life into an extraordinary one.Iota everything you’ve been taught and teach yourself.
